Santiago is no stranger to the boom of urban art, and as in many other cities around the world, in Compostela we are strongly committed to muralism in order to restore and enhance forgotten or degraded spaces. Spaces that are being revived for the residents of Compostela themselves, becoming new foci of attraction in a city with an immense heritage, as well as places in which to leave our own mark.
Today, Santiago has become a museum of urban art, featuring a wide range of mural paintings, many of which have been created by widely renowned artists. Different events such as the Delas Fest, Elas Tamén Pintan or Compostela Contemporánea have contributed to this, initiatives committed to muralism as a form of expression and in which Santiago City Council has collaborated over the last few years.
Thanks to these mural paintings, the people who visit us may not only discover creative Santiago but also engage with the local community and its history by means of this street art. Hopefully, visiting these murals will be the perfect excuse, for visitors and residents alike, to visit other unknown areas of the city, beyond the usual itineraries, to discover a living, modern, creative and socially aware city. A Compostela that looks to the future, and that we are continuing to build all together.
