Wnere can I find a place to stay?

In our website there is a section for accomodation, where you will find a list of establishments sorted by their situation, price, category, etc. and where you can also make resevartions.

Where can I go out?

You can go for a wine to Rúa do Franco and Raíña Streets. Pubs and bars in San Paio de Antealtares and Porta do Camiño areas, and also in the new area of the city (Ensanche) surrounding Praza Roxa.

How far is the nearest beach?

About 35 kms away, at Vilagarcía de Arousa or Noia.

When can I see the "Botafumeiro"

It only functions on religious feasts designated by the Archbishopric or when someone requests it as an offering, which is very common in the high season and especially during Holy Years. More information in this web’s “Cathedral” section.

Where can I eat?

There are many restaurants in the old town as well as the new town. The wine/tapas area is on the Rúa do Franco and on the Rúa da Raiña. We reccomend that you visit the gastronomy section in our web site.

When is the Cathedral open?

The Cathedral is open all day, from 7 am till 8.30 pm. More information on Cathedral. The museum opens from 10 am till 8 pm. See other visit options on Museums.

How often is a Holy Year celebrated?

It is celebrated when the 25th of July falls on a Sunday. Due to leap years, it has an irregular frequency, every 6, 5, 6 and 11 years.

When is the next holy year?

How can I attain the Jubilee indulgence?

To attain the plenary absolution you do not need to do the Camino. It is enough to visit the Cathedral during a Holy Year, saying a prayer for the Pope's intentions, as well as confessing and taking the communion during a day two weeks before or after the visit.

How far away is the airport?

The airport is about 15 km away. There is a approximative taxi fare of € 23 (including luggage). There is also a bus service to the airport.

What can I visit apart from the Cathedral?

We reccomend you visit San Martin Pinario, the surrounding streets and squares, the market, San Domingos de Bonaval and Alameda parks and the Colexiata de Sar.

Way of St. James

I'm a pilgrim and I've done the Way by bike. How can I get home with my bike?

-By bus, only for national trips, booking a space for your bike (€ 10 supplement).

-By plane, with the tyres deflated and the handlebars turned around.

-By train, but only on regional trains.

-Sending your bike by mail or by a courier company.

Where can I find baggage lockers?

At the Post Office, the bus station, airport and, for a short time, in the Pilgrim Office. Some private companies also offer left-luggage and/or bike storage services.

Where do I get information on the Way?

At the Xacobeo Tourist Office (Rúa Carretas 33, Phone: (+34) 881 866 393) or by visiting the web www.caminodesantiago.gal.

How can I obtain the Compostela?

By doing the Way, and getting your Pilgrim Card stamped at the refuges. You have to do a minimum of 100kms by foot or by horse, or 200kms by bike.

I'm a pilgrim and I want to go to Finisterre. How do I do it?

-By foot, the way is sign-posted.

-By bus with the Monbus bus company (www.monbus.es).

Transport

How do I get to the bus station?

Getting the local bus number 6 from Praza de Galicia. The price is €1.00 and has a frequency every 15-20mins.

How can I get to Vigo or A Coruña?

Buses every hour to Vigo, Pontevedra or A Coruña (www.monbus.es).Trains with almost the same frequency (train timetable available at www.renfe.es).

How do I get to the train station?

Take No. 6 city bus in Praza de Galicia. The bus costs € 1.00 and departs every 15-20 minutes.
