FESTA (Galicia) “As xacias”

Synopsis

A mural made for Santiago City Council in 2023 as part of the Edusi project for rehabilitating the Sar riverside trail. The artist from Santiago de Compostela called Festa worked together with the 7H cultural cooperative to reinterpret the figure of the “xacias,” mythical water creatures that take care of and clean the rivers. This important role, highlighted collectively in the artwork’s composition, is intended to reverse their individual, lonely, objectified, and certainly somewhat malignant image that is commonly portrayed in our oral tradition.
