Chaián River Beach

This is the closest one to the city, approx. 10 km away. The recreational area covers both riverbanks and includes small river islands, linked together by wooden bridges, which make up a pleasant walk. There are many shady areas, a picnic area, tables with chess and draughts boards, a volleyball area, a car park with bicycle spaces, a small cafeteria (open in summer) and a refuge for fishermen. The “Festa do Escalo” (Chub Festival) is held here in July. This is a good place for bird watching, especially for herons.

How to get there: Take the A Coruña road (N-550) out of the city and at the Meixonfrío roundabout, go all the way around and take the service lane heading back towards Santiago . Take the next right turn a few metres on and pass by Meixonfrío and Polígono del Tambre (industrial estate). Continue along this road, the so-called Trazo road, and you will reach the Chaián recreational area after passing the village of Son de Abaixo.
