Wonderful contrasts

Via Rúa dos Pelamios we reach Vista Alegre Parjk, the result of an intelligent adaptation by Arata Isozaki and César Portela of a manor garden for contemporary uses. Behind the sturdy wall lies the old colonial mansion of Finca Simeón, with a chapel and bower covered by wisteria vines; statues guarding the path and a hundred-year-old oak grove (beautiful fallen leaves in autumn) in harmonious coexistence with three contemporary buildings: the glass cube of the University of Santiago’s Advanced Studies Centre, the granite cube of the High Musical Studies School and the spectacular headquarters of Sociedad General de Autores (SGAE), the last two being designed by Antón García Abril.
