On March 2, 1856, this iconic oak grove or ‘carballeira’ located on the banks of the Sar River was the scene of an unprecedented event: students and workers celebrated a democratic banquet and toasted together to liberty and fraternity. This Conxo Banquet, which eventually became one of the pillars of Galician nationalism, saw the participation of prominent figures such as Aurelio Aguirre and Eduardo Pondal. The extraordinary natural value of this space lies in the significant presence of centenary trees, such as the old oak known as the Carballo de Conxo.
