The 2025 Ascensión Festivities will fill Compostela with music, activities, and tradition during the last week of May. This celebration, one of the most beloved by the people of Santiago, returns with open-air concerts, children’s shows, traditional markets, fairground rides in the Alameda, and exhibitions of Galician folk culture.

The group Tanxugueiras will be the headliner of a programme that will not be lacking in big-heads, music bands, parades, the attractions of the Alameda and the traditional Feira Cabalar.

The festivities begin on Wednesday 28 with the Cantos de Taberna (Tavern Songs) and the Santiago 40 Pop concert at 9:00 p.m. in Praza da Quintana, featuring Depol as one of the headline acts.

The main day of Ascensión, Thursday 29, starts with early morning music and continues with a concert by the Municipal Band at 12:00 p.m. in Praza da Quintana, accompanied by Ultreia. The traditional cabezudos (big-headed figures) will liven up the day from 12:30 p.m., and visitors can also head to the Amio fairgrounds to enjoy the traditional horse fair. In the afternoon, the Folk na Rúa (Folk in the Streets) program will take place, along with a concert by the Real Filharmonía at 8:30 p.m. in the Auditorio de Galicia. The headline event will be Tanxugueiras’ concert at 9:00 p.m. in Praza da Quintana. Meanwhile, the Marbella Orchestra will perform in the Alameda.

On Friday 30, we’ll enjoy another classic: Composfest, full of great music. The XLVIII Torneo da Chave will also take place in the Alameda. The day wraps up with traditional morning music and an evening orchestra performance.

Saturday, May 31, will be dedicated to the Festa dos Maiores (Seniors’ Festival), a classic and contemporary car exhibition, performances by traditional dance schools across the old town squares, and the Romería das Flores in Belvís. Praza da Quintana will host a concert by Queralt Lahoz, part of the SON Estrella Galicia series.

On the final day, Sunday 1, the XXIV Carreira da Ascensión (Ascension Race) will take place, along with another concert by the Municipal Band, this time featuring Ailá. There will also be circus entertainment for children in Praza de Mazarelos. Guadi Galego will bring Santiago’s biggest festivities to a close with a final concert at 8:30 p.m. in Praza da Quintana.

All activities are free of charge and open to the public until full capacity is reached, unless otherwise specified.
