The sumptuary arts have been closely linked to worship since ancient times. Throughout their history, many institutions commissioned important works from goldsmiths and silversmiths. In the case of the Brotherhood of the Rosary, a silver Virgin in Gothic style dating from the 16th century is preserved and documented, as well as some lamps, located in the Chapel of the Rosary, of impressive size and value. Dr. Ana Pérez Varela, a leading specialist in this field of knowledge, will enlighten us on these works of silverware from Compostela.

The “Xenerais da Ulla” is the most outstanding feature of the Ulla region’s traditional Carnival. It has been held in the surroundings of Santiago since the first half of the 19th century: the “Xenerais” (generals) ride on horseback, dressed in colourful military garments similar to those of that time, but they also include purely carnivalesque adornments, which the horses also wear.
