When Castelao died in 1950, there were times when it was not possible to mourn his loss. Then, the playwright Daniel Varela Buxán decides to pay, in a private act in front of his neighbours, his particular tribute to the rianxeiro. Now, the company Fantoches Baj recreates that scene adapting it to the smallest to approach them to the figure of Castelao across the theatre of puppets of thread, the oral narration and the theatre of masks. Thus, on the occasion of Theatre Day, the Library of Galicia brings the premiere of the play Castelao. A heart out in the open.
The play, aimed at children from 6 years of age, takes a look at the most significant literary and artistic moments in Castelao's life in a language adapted to the youngest members of the family. This stage play represents part of his work with puppets: stories from ‘Cousas’; narrations from ‘Retrincos’, scenes from ‘Os vellos non deben namorarse’ and the monologue of the skeleton in ‘Un ollo de vidro’.
This piece, which comes out on the 75th anniversary of Castelao's death, also aims to contribute to the normalisation and dissemination of the Galician language at an early age and in the family and cultural context. In addition, it will raise awareness of Castelao as a politician, intellectual, writer and key figure in the promotion and normalisation of Galician due to his deep commitment to the cultural identity of Galicia and his conviction that language is a fundamental pillar of that identity.
