75 years ago, in December 1949, Castelao, exiled in Argentina, signed on his deathbed the first pages of what was to be his last published work: As cruces de pedra na Galiza, the result of many years of study of these particular examples of popular religiosity. 

On the occasion of this commemoration, on Tuesday, December 3rd, at 19:00, we will inaugurate the exhibition ‘75 aniversario de la firma de As cruces de pedra na Galiza’ (75th anniversary of the signing of As cruces de pedra na Galiza). A bibliographic selection with which the Museo do Pobo Galego wants to pay a modest tribute to the most famous polygrapher from Rianxeiro.

The exhibition, which can be seen until 29 December 2024, includes our own collection and various works donated by members and patrons, which show the proliferation in these seven decades of numerous studies on the stone crosses in the different European Atlantic fisterras. 

The exhibition is organised and produced by the Museo do Pobo Galego. It has the graphic design and signage by Juan Feáns, and with the collaboration of the Xunta de Galicia, the Diputación de A Coruña, the Vicepresidencia de la Diputación de Lugo - Área de Cultura and the Red Museística Provincial de Lugo - Museo Provincial de Lugo; as well as the Ayuntamiento de Santiago de Compostela.
