Various parts of the city
24th July
As part of the programme of the Apostle's festivities, an impressive fireworks display launched from different locations in the city.
On the night before the Apostle's Day, they will be performed from 3 locations: the Alameda, the Fontiñas steps (Charlemagne Park) and the Cidade da Cultura de Galicia and will last around 18 minutes.
This show is a deep-rooted tradition in the local history of Compostela. The oldest documentary evidence dates its origin back to the 17th century, when the Praza del Obradoiro was lit up with coloured candles to mark the beginning of the Apostle's Day. The first references to fire as such appear in the 17th and 18th centuries, with the burning of a castle and the launching of bonfires.
