On 19 February at 7:30 p.m., Bookshop Couceiro will host the talk “Twenty-five Discographic Editions for Rosalía de Castro”. Rosalía is, by far, the Galician literary figure most frequently set to music: more than five hundred sound recordings documented by the National Library attest to this, with “Negra Sombra” standing out as a musical emblem since the early 20th century.
The talk explores a rarely addressed topic: the discographic editions conceived as monographic works dedicated to Rosalía de Castro. Twenty-five essential projects that, over decades, have helped consolidate her musical and cultural legacy, while inspiring new recordings based on her writing.
The session will be delivered by Xaime Estévez Vila, a secondary school music professor, university collaborator and active member of multiple projects related to Galician music and tradition. With an extensive background in research, dissemination and cultural programming, he is also a multi-instrumentalist and the curator of a significant personal archive devoted to Galician music.
