Roteiro: Lugares de xuntanza e socialización. Santiago 1923-1936
The Cultural Association O Galo invites you to join the walking tour “Meeting and Social Spaces. Santiago 1923-1936”, a journey through the memory of the city that revisits the places where social and cultural life flourished in Compostela during the early 20th century. The tour will be led by Antonia Pérez, who will guide participants through emblematic sites filled with history and collective memory.
The event will take place on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 12:00 pm, starting from the Porta do Camiño (corner with Casas Reais Street). Participation requires prior registration by email at comunicacion@ogalo.gal before September 26 at midnight. The itinerary includes nine stops in key spots such as Casas Reais, Cervantes, San Agostiño, Mazarelos, Rúa Nova, A Conga, O Vilar, San Clemente, and O Pombal.

The “Xenerais da Ulla” is the most outstanding feature of the Ulla region’s traditional Carnival. It has been held in the surroundings of Santiago since the first half of the 19th century: the “Xenerais” (generals) ride on horseback, dressed in colourful military garments similar to those of that time, but they also include purely carnivalesque adornments, which the horses also wear.
