Conference organized by the Science, Technology and Environment Section, entitled “O desafío dunha crise ambiental acelerada e global”, which will be given by Emilio Fernández Suárez, Professor of Ecology at the University of Vigo.

This talk aims to present the present environmental context through a series of indicators that illustrate the magnitude and scale of the changes the planet has undergone since the Industrial Revolution, focusing in particular on one of the best known and most relevant in the current context, although not the only one, that related to the climate crisis associated with anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere. The analysis of the historical evolution of these emissions and the scenarios of change foreseeable for the present century will make it possible to frame the possible alternatives that aspire to reverse the current trend, concentrating attention on Europe's great strategic commitment in this area: the so-called Green Pact.
