The Dance of the Sculptures

In this 2026 Carnival, the museum’s sculptures come to life, step down from their pedestals, and organise a grand dance. What would the sculptures look like if they could move and dance? How would they dress? What colours would they wear? This year, we invite children to reimagine Asorey’s work and transform it into a great dance of sculptures.

A visit to the exhibition Francisco Asorey, a Necessary Recovery is enough to realise that the museum is home to very different characters: aviators, moustached writers, farmers, members of the bourgeoisie, animals that seem taken from a storybook—such as a calf, a wolf or a cat—and, above all, beautiful and colourful clothing.

This Carnival dance is an invitation to let the imagination fly and enjoy not only the celebration, but also the preparations: the moment of fantasising about which costume to wear or how to reinterpret patterns and fabrics. We invite children and adults to create their own costume using reused fabrics and materials such as old clothes, bedsheets, cloths, cardboard or shiny scraps!

The afternoon will be filled with music from the very beginning, with the DJ set by Marifaltri, a concert by the tribute band Lembra Xabarín, an urban dance workshop led by Vella Escola, and of course the traditional costume contest.

Let your imagination run wild to amaze the audience and the jury of our costume contest. This year, the jury will walk among the audience throughout the afternoon to award the best costumes. We encourage you to look for inspiration in Francisco Asorey’s sculptures and in the characters that inhabit the museum: farmers, animals, historical figures, fabrics, colours and shapes that seem to emerge from the stone to come to life! And although the main goal is to have fun, winners will receive a special gift inspired by the Xabarín Club, as well as a set of books in Galician.
