Works by H.I.F. Biber, Johannes Schop, Bartolomé de Selma y Salaverde and texts by Rainer Maria Rilke.
As Sonatas do Rosario, by Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber, is a collection of 15 sonatas, composed around 1674 and written for violin and basso continuo, plus a final piece, the Pasacaglia. It is one of the most fascinating works of the Baroque period, inspired by the Mysteries of the Rosary, a Catholic devotion that contemplates key episodes in the life of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary. A unique feature of these sonatas is the use of scordatura, an unusual tuning technique for the violin, which allows it to create specific timbres to reflect the feelings and other nuances of the different mysteries it depicts. This technique makes the sonatas exceptionally difficult to perform, as the performer must constantly adapt to new dixitations, hence the spectacular nature of the work.
Annelie Gahl is a violinist who has gained international recognition for her solo violin recordings, which combine classical and baroque repertoire with contemporary pieces. She is also a regular collaborator of the Camerata Salzburg and the Concentus Musicus Wien, where she worked for years under the direction of Nikolaus Harnoncourt. The performance of the pieces will be accompanied by the recitation of the Galician actor Luís Iglesia, who will recite poems from the cycle of the Life of the Virgin by the poet Rilke.
