Louza de Bamio: memoria, mulleres e territorio invites the public to discover the richness of a trade that has disappeared today: the oleira tradition of the parish of San Xinés de Bamio, in Vilagarcía de Arousa. The exhibition is part of Louceir@s de Bamio, a hybrid project between the Asociación de Mulleres Rurais de Bamio and the University of Vigo, which seeks to recover the social memory of the neighborhood.
The exhibition consists of six panels that cover the history and techniques of this tradition, with special emphasis on the fundamental role of women in the transmission of this knowledge. In addition, the exhibition includes the exhibition of several original pieces of this oleira tradition, some belonging to the Museo do Pobo Galego and others recovered by the Louceir@s de Bamio project itself.
It is, in short, a tribute to a lost craft, and also an appreciation of the importance of revitalizing the collective memory.
