June 9 marks the celebration of International Archives Day, commemorating the establishment of the International Council on Archives in 1948. To honor this occasion, the Chapter of the S.A.M.I. Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela and its Archive-Library are organizing Open Days from June 9 to 13, 2025. These events aim to highlight the importance of the Cathedral's Archive and archives in general, emphasizing their role in research, culture, memory, and transparency.
Free guided tours will offer visitors access to typically restricted areas, including cataloging rooms, bibliographic and archival repositories, the Chapter Hall, and the Historical Chapter Library. Additionally, the López Ferreiro Room will showcase three significant original documents: the Codex Calixtinus, the Tumbo A, and the Breviary of Miranda. Visitors can also explore the exhibition “Historical Galicia: 100 Pages of History and Compostela Documents” in the Chapter Library, open from June 6 to 22. At the end of the tour, participants will receive a commemorative gift.
Tours, approximately 60 minutes in duration, will be conducted in groups of up to 15 people at the following times:
Monday, June 9: 4:30 PM and 6:00 PM
Tuesday, June 10: 10:30 AM and 6:00 PM
Wednesday, June 11: 10:30 AM and 6:00 PM
Thursday, June 12: 10:30 AM and 6:00 PM
Friday, June 13: 10:30 AM
Advance reservation is required, available up to one hour before each tour, with a maximum of 4 spots per reservation. The Festa do Banquete de Conxo will count on the tourist train, which will be available to citizens and visitors for free transfers between the Alameda, in the city centre, and the neighbourhood of Conxo.
