San Martiño Pinario was the largest and most influential Benedictine monastery in Galicia, as well as the second largest in all Spain after El Escorial.
Its museum includes a visit to the church, which stands out among the city's churches due to its impressive baldachin and choir stalls (the Renaissance upper choir is from the 17th century and belonged to the Cathedral).
Furthermore, on display in its different rooms are collections of paintings, sculptures, gold and silver articles, archaeological remains, etc, as well as everyday objects used by the monks that inhabited it: from the monastery's pressroom, pharmacy and old natural history study.
