The 38th Cultural Week of Conxo will begin on Friday, September 5, with the opening of the exhibition The Imaginary of a Neighborhood, at the CSC Aurelio Aguirre. It is a photography exhibition by Gabriel Tizón, who over the last few years has portrayed Conxo through different activities that show the unity of its residents and the neighborhood’s own imaginary. It will take place at 6:00 p.m., before a round table under the title Conxo, 100 Years of Identity, with the participation of José Luciano Villar, representative of the Conxo Aberto Neighborhood Association, and local residents Mercedes Franqueira González and Carme García Álvarez. The debate will be moderated by Rafael García Ferreira.
Friday’s schedule will end with the first edition of Novas Xeras, an initiative that aims to give space to the new emerging musical generations linked to Conxo. Master of ceremonies will be Vituco Neira, from Ruxe Ruxe, who will also perform as a soloist. Joining him on stage will be Naxo Ganín, an Argentine musician who has been living in Compostela for three years; the group Mirando Flores; and Rafael Briceño, also connected to the Conxo neighborhood for years.
Music, workshops, and sports activities
On Saturday, September 6, the program of the 38th Cultural Week of Conxo brings two interesting proposals. In the morning, the CSC will host an intercultural cooking workshop focused on the world of bread, and the different ways of making it in various parts of the world. The activity will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and to participate prior registration is required by calling 981 528740. In the evening, starting at 9:00 p.m., music will be the highlight, with the concert of De Ninghures, linked to the celebration of the centenary of Conxo’s annexation to the City Council of Santiago, with the collaboration of the Provincial Council of A Coruña and the Festivals Department.
The program will continue on Monday, September 8, with a table tennis tournament, and the performance of Meninos do Pandeiro, a project by Xan Pérez and Carlos Quintá linked to Acentral Folque. The following day there will be street games starting at 6:30 p.m., under the motto We travel to 1925; and from 8:00 p.m., a screening of academic audiovisual works.
A cycling route through the Banquet of Conxo forest will be the main activity on September 10, in collaboration with the Compostelano Cycling Club. The activity will begin at 5:30 p.m., starting from Aurelio Aguirre Square, where it will finish with a healthy snack for all participants. The estimated duration of the route is two and a half hours.
On Thursday, September 11, many activities are planned, starting early, at 9:30 a.m., with a hiking route through the parishes of the southeast of the former municipality of Conxo, organized by the Vía Láctea Club. The circular route will start at the church of San Cristovo do Eixo, and will also pass through the parishes of Aríns and Marrozos. It will total 16 kilometers, with medium difficulty. To participate, prior registration is required via the email inscricions@clubvialactea.com , or by calling 604091325. In the afternoon, there will be a creative typographic printing workshop, a strategy games session, and a performance by Teatro do Muíño, from Laraño, which will present the play Asalto de cama.
Finally, on the afternoon of September 12, there will be traditional, popular, and world games starting at 5:00 p.m.; and at 6:30 p.m., the reading animation show Contos Animados, by Carballiños, will begin.
The Cultural Week of Conxo emerged in 1986 thanks to the Arco da Vella Cultural Association, which organized it until 1994, the year in which the collective disappeared. Since then, the organization has been assumed by the City Council of Santiago, through the Department of Sociocultural Centers.
