In this workshop, we’ll explore the world of the cantareiras — women who made music for dancing during their rare moments of leisure: foliadas, seráns, ruadas... We’ll learn about the rhythms they used, the percussion instruments they relied on, especially their inseparable tambourine, and the lyrics they invented themselves.
With the voices of Adolfina, Rosa, Eva, Manuela, Prudencia, Asunción, and many other anonymous cantareiras, we’ll travel back to a time when women not only carried the weight of their families, but also brought joy and relief to everyday life. We’ll end the activity by singing as they did — and, if the spirit moves us, maybe even dancing.
Held in the auditorium. For 50 people aged 14 to 99. Tickets can be collected starting 30 minutes before the activity begins.
