Rosalía de Castro, Galician woman poet, is also the precursor of social poetry in Galicia, in defence of the mistreated land.
Through her work, the Galician language became a prestigious literary language and called for its use in all areas of life. It is precisely the date of publication of her Cantares gallegos, as expressed by the author herself in her dedication to Fernán Caballero, 17 May 1863, which marks the beginning of the celebrations of the Día das Letras Galegas in 1963, following the proposal of Francisco Fernandez del Riego to the Real Academia Galega.
In 2025, one hundred and forty years after his death, the Ánxel Casal Library of Santiago de Compostela wants to celebrate his birth, on 23 February 1837, dedicating the whole month to his work with this bibliographic exhibition that you will find in the Children's Room. It can be visited during the opening hours of the library.
