Our markets are public facilities with an important social and economic function in our villages and territory, connecting local production and consumption. However, they are facing social changes and economic pressures. We must not limit ourselves to making them profitable by turning them into tourist destinations or gastronomic establishments but insist that they continue to play an increasingly important role in the relationship between the community, the environment and economic activity.
Markets are part of our identity, and we want to protect them, but how can we protect their activity and social character beyond the building itself and its architecture?
Isn’t a municipal market the direct connection with the primary sector? Markets are public infrastructures of the municipalities, shouldn’t the governments organize and facilitate these connections? Shouldn’t we guarantee the right to healthy and local food for our children and the elderly?
These are the questions addressed by Casa RIA’s new exhibition, available in its exhibition space from January 22, 2025.
