In the vibrant tapestry of the Los Angeles music scene, LA LOM stands out for its ability to effortlessly weave together the diverse genres and cultures of the city in their music. An abbreviation for The Los Angeles League of Musicians, LA LOM is made up of Los Angeles natives Zac Sokolow (guitar), Jake Faulkner (bass), and Nicholas Baker (drums/percussion).

LA LOM’s roots date back to 2019, when the band formed to play five nights a week in the lobby of the historic Hotel Roosevelt on Hollywood Boulevard. Initially tasked with providing background music for hotel guests, tourists, and passersby, LA LOM quickly began experimenting with a repertoire that transcends genres and reflects the diverse musical diaspora of Los Angeles.

LA LOM started by reinterpreting instrumental versions of soul ballads from the 50s and 60s they heard as kids on Los Angeles country music station K-EARTH 101, evoking the relaxed aesthetic that defines the region and drawing inspiration from figures like Smokey Robinson, Aaron Neville, and Brenda and the Tabulations. Their sonic palette expanded to include the romantic appeal of classic Mexican boleros and cumbia sonidera, woven into the city’s own sonic fabric, resonating through the streets from car stereos, backyard parties, and lively dance halls.

LA LOM created a sound blending all these elements with the vibrant accent of Peruvian chicha guitar and Bakersfield country.

LA LOM rose quickly, playing for thousands and catching the attention of Beck, Vampire Weekend, and Zane Lowe.
