Antagonista Teatro presents its new show, Insubmisa. This production is based on an original text by Jose Vaquero, inspired by the mythological figure of Medea to build a reflection on one of the most insidious mechanisms of patriarchy: the reconstruction of narrative.
Plot:
She may have committed a terrible crime, but the issue now is not her guilt, but her mental state. It is not enough to declare her guilty. It must also be clear that she is ill, insane. No one will sleep peacefully while we believe someone like her could exist. Thus, she remains locked up to be evaluated.
Proposal:
Insubmisa is an examination of the real possibilities of being free beyond individual or gender labels. It is a denunciation of the golden cage built by patriarchy and of the stigmas women suffer even under a progressive gaze. The characters move between their reality and ours to show us they are one and the same, without embellishment, without sweetening. They confront the audience directly to avoid being consumed by expectations. Insubmisa is drama, but it is also dance, music, video, and social theatre at the service of reflection.
The text is born from the archetype of Medea created by Euripides, a reworking of an earlier myth that took root in the collective imagination. Through this story, we denounce how patriarchal culture uses the writing of narratives to create a symbolic superstructure that reinforces its values.
