Following the warm reception of its first edition, the II Jornadas de Flauta de Galicia will bring more than a hundred international flautists to the Galician capital.
The initiative will take place from July 6 to 13 and is “designed for flautists of all ages and levels, because we deeply believe that music is a bridge that connects us all, regardless of age or experience,” say the organisers of the event, which will gather around 100 musicians from across the Iberian Peninsula.
This project was born from the passion of a group of flautists born in Galicia, who began their musical training here and now take Santiago de Compostela as the reference point for this gathering of musicians from different countries. For a whole week, the Galician capital will be filled with the sound of internationally renowned professionals, while also bringing the instrument closer to the general public.
The programme is structured around five sections:
– Concurso de Flauta, aimed at young promising flautists
– Masterclasses, featuring a dozen teachers
– Courses, with three innovative and exciting proposals
– Concerts, open to the public and scheduled between July 7 and 13 in key locations throughout the city
– Complementary activities, such as flute ensembles, talks and practical workshops
This event also serves as an opportunity for artists working abroad to return to the land where they began their careers and share their knowledge with students aged between 9 and 66. “We’ll hold training sessions for an intergenerational audience, something we find very enriching, as the journey into music can begin at any age,” explain the organisers of the II Xornadas de Frauta de Galicia.
The II Jornadas de Flauta de Galicia will feature renowned international professionals. The jury for the Concurso de Flauta includes Iago Lariño, Jimena Vicente, Saleta Suárez, Julia Estévez, Silvia Padín and César Concheiro.
Courses will be led by Paula Padín, André Cebrián and Diego Aceña. The masterclasses will be delivered by flautists working in prestigious musical ensembles from countries such as Germany, Italy, France, Venezuela and the United States, including:
Ruth Pereira, Erika Macalli, Silvia Rozas, Christina Castellanos, Néstor Sutil, Claudia Walker, Joan Ibáñez, Laurent Blaiteau, Luis Soto, Iago Lariño, Carmen Ferreiro and Xavier Lozano.
