Following Sánchez Verdú’s work, the program is completed by Bartók and Dutilleux, both dazzling for the rich colors of their music — tied to Hungarian folk heritage in the first, and to sonic poetry in the second. Bartók’s Piano Concerto No. 2, one of the most demanding of the 20th century, brims with expressive clarity and orchestral transparency. Its three movements unfold in a palindromic structure, a hallmark of Bartók’s style.
Coming from a family of artists, Dutilleux re-catalogued his oeuvre, rejecting everything composed before the occupation. His talent opened new paths in classical music, a legacy he also passed on to his students. His Symphony No. 2 stands out for its original staging: a main symphonic group converses with an independent chamber ensemble. Conceived with orchestral refinement, it offers an innovative color palette, with rhythms flowing like liquid shapes.
