The aim of the event is to highlight the benefits of play in the integral development of individuals. Playing supports balanced growth of the body, intelligence, emotions, and social skills—so a child who plays is a healthy child.
The activities on the Central Promenade of the Alameda will begin at 5:30 p.m., and participation is open and free of charge. There will be a space for traditional Galician games, another for group and cooperative games, inflatables, a zip line, and archery. A circuit-gymkhana will also be set up for children to ride through with their bicycles, and a geocaching game aimed at children aged 10 and up, which will require prior registration. The day will conclude with the performance of Ghop!, a family show by Teatro ao Cubo that combines juggling, puppetry, acrobatics, and magic.
Article 31 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child recognizes “the right of the child to rest and leisure, to engage in play and recreational activities appropriate to the age of the child and to participate freely in cultural life and the arts. States Parties shall respect and promote the right of the child to participate fully in cultural and artistic life and shall encourage the provision of appropriate and equal opportunities for cultural, artistic, recreational and leisure activity.”
Based on this article, Friday's event will include the reading of a manifesto that recognizes play as an essential activity for personal development, one that supports physical and mental health, fosters communication, enhances creativity and talent, and has a direct impact on emotional intelligence.
