This year, Cineuropa reaches the stage of the Real Filharmonía with Sing-Sing, a film directed by Greg Kwedar and released in 2024. While Bryce Dessner is perhaps best known for his scores for The Revenant or The Two Popes, the Ohio-born musician also boasts a strong background in symphonic composition. Dessner bridges the worlds of orchestral music and indie rock as guitarist for The National, earning both Golden Globes and Grammy Awards in his dual careers. His influences blend, with surprising harmony, Brian Eno, Johann Sebastian Bach, and Steve Reich. For Sing-Sing, Dessner translates the film’s central theme—the transformative power of art as a force of resistance for an innocent man in prison—into a score that above all evokes freedom.
