Mozart, deeply fascinated by the ideas and spiritual dimension of Freemasonry—which he discovered through his patron, the diplomat Gemmingen—joined the Viennese Masonic lodge Zur Wohltätigkeit (“Charity”) at the age of 28. He soon became an enthusiastic member and devoted his artistic sensitivity to composing works inspired by Masonic philosophy and symbolism. These compositions, rich in aesthetic and spiritual value, were intended for both Masonic ceremonies and general audiences, always guided by the values and rites of the Brotherhood.
