Berenguela na Gaiola is a family play co-produced by Galeatro and Xarope Tulú, with the support of the Centro Dramático Galego, the Fundación Manuel María, and the FIOT Carballo festival. The play is directed by Paula Carballeira and based on a text by Manuel María, with a cast including Alba Bermúdez, Atenea García, and Tone Martínez. It won the 4th Manuel María Prize for Theatre Projects, receiving funding and a planned tour across several locations in Galicia.
The story takes place in a retirement home, where Berenguela decides to escape and return to her village. Along with Aurora and Tomás, the characters use theatre to recover freedom, imagination, and the right to dream. The play blends humor, emotion, and reflection, and is suitable for all audiences aged 6 and up, with an approximate duration of 50 minutes.
