The results presented below are from one of the lines of work carried out by Santiago’s Tourism Observatory in 2005: the study of the local population’s perception and assessment of tourism. This study satisfies the need for ascertaining and measuring, on the one hand, the residents’ degree of knowledge regarding the different tourist initiatives being carried out in the city and, on the other hand, their opinion and assessment of certain elements or factors that define and characterise this sector in Santiago: assessment of tourist resources, the elements making up the city’s range of activities, perception of Santiago’s image as a tourist destination, etc.
