The aim is to use sport as a tool to create a space for community interaction, fostering connections between different migrant communities and the local population to build bridges and encourage exchange in a friendly, recreational environment. The organising entities highlight their commitment to promoting coexistence and social cohesion, strengthening the sense of belonging, celebrating cultural diversity, and combating racism, discrimination, and hate or anti-immigration speech.
Sports activities are well known for their role in promoting inclusion and coexistence, as they reinforce values such as respect for difference, collaboration, solidarity, and collective effort. During this event, in addition to sports, participants will share culture through musical performances, intercultural games, and traditional food from various regions.
The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. and continue until 7:00 p.m. Throughout the day, matches will take place between teams formed by local residents, with the participation of athletes from Peru, Senegal, Mali, Colombia, Paraguay, and other countries. Teams will be composed of people over 16 years old, regardless of gender identity. There will also be space for the call to end genocide and to show support for the Palestinian people, with one team carrying that message as the driving force behind their participation.
At 12:00 p.m., there will be a session of intercultural and cooperative games led by Brazilian educator Éllen Amaral. Around noon, participants will be able to enjoy typical dishes available for purchase and tasting at the Don Bosco centre. Lunch will be accompanied by music from DJ M.A. Barreira, who has curated a special playlist for the day. Before resuming the afternoon sports activities, Senegalese artist Abdoul D’où Cana will perform live at 4:00 p.m.
With this type of initiative, supported by the Intercultural Community Mediation Service of UAMI, the goal is to promote prevention — an intervention strategy that acts before tensions arise, encouraging mutual understanding, improving neighbourhood relations, and fostering attitudes and strategies that make it easier to address issues in their early stages, preventing them from escalating or becoming entrenched.
