The exhibition "In the Footsteps of the Muses" invites visitors to take a visual journey through the works of visual artist Mareiras, which speak of eight women artists with powerful and singular creativity: Countess Oldini, Isabel Rawsthorne, Suzanne Valadon, Bella Chagall, Lidia Delectorskaya, Teresa Arijón, Celia Paul, and Ethel Warwick. In addition, Mareiras includes her own male muse, Fausto.
In doing so, the artist challenges the dominant artistic narrative and asserts the possibility of men taking on the role of muse. Inspired by the book The Painted Woman by Teresa Arijón, Mareiras' works aim to revalue the names of these great creators, restoring them to the rightful place in history that the canonical narrative has denied them.
