Sensoxenoma is a pioneering project that combines science and music to study how musical stimulation affects gene expression and brain health. Led by the Santiago Health Research Institute (IDIS), in collaboration with the Real Filharmonía de Galicia and, for the second consecutive year, with the Santiago de Compostela Municipal Music Band, it conducts experimental concerts in which biological samples (saliva, blood, tears) are collected from volunteers before, during, and after the performances. The results show that music can modulate gene expression in patients with neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, suggesting a beneficial compensatory effect.
