ROCÍO MÁRQUEZ
MUSIC · FIESTRA ABERTA SERIES
Rocío Márquez is one of the key figures of 21st-century flamenco music. As a cantaora, she follows in the footsteps of the great innovators of the genre. Over her three decades of artistic career, she has combined research rigour, creative drive and interpretive excellence. The result is a decisive contribution to the position of flamenco today at the forefront of contemporary music.
On this occasion, accompanied by guitarist Pedro Rojas-Ogayar, she presents HIMNO VERTICAL. The requiem, traditionally a farewell chant —a mass that pays tribute to the dead— becomes in this project a work that honours not only the end, but also the beginning, the flow and the transformation. This requiem does not follow the rules of authorship nor does it belong to a single voice. It is a choral echo that resonates from the collective, a ritual of farewell and welcome at the same time, a circular ceremony that invites us to question the cycle of life and death as opposite poles and to embrace them as a single dance.
