Philip Glass enjoys a rare level of acclaim during his lifetime thanks to music that prioritizes direct communication with audiences. Trained in the United States and Paris, he blends Eastern influences and jazz into his aesthetic. His style is unmistakable for its melodic simplicity, repetition, and engagement with urban music—especially that of New York.
Company is the string arrangement of his String Quartet No. 2, defined by a steadily growing dramatic intensity and a constant rhythmic pulse, like a mantra.
Concerto Grosso, composed in 1992, was commissioned by Beethoven’s hometown. His spiritual presence is felt throughout the piece, with each movement conceived for a different orchestral family.
Three years later, Glass composed the Concerto for Saxophone Quartet, a lyrical work that distills his trademark simplicity with masterful clarity.
