Cometa: Commissioned from Inés Badalo. World premiere
Hans Abrahamsen: Let me tell you
Piotr Ilich Chaikovski: Symphony No. 1 in G minor, Op. 13, TH 24 “Winter Dreams”

Inés Badalo presents the first star in a sound constellation created by sixteen composers to pay tribute to the Real Filharmonía de Galicia on its 30th anniversary — a series we call Proyecto Cometas. Also reaching toward the infinite, the song cycle Let me tell you by Danish composer Hans Abrahamsen contains the 481 words Shakespeare placed on Ophelia’s lips, as she poetically reflects on the allure of the past, present, and future. This dreamlike state connects seamlessly with Winter Dreams, the first symphony by a 26-year-old Piotr Ilich Chaikovski. Writing it was an exhausting and tortuous process, worsened by his strained relationship with Nikolái Rubinstein, the director of the Moscow Conservatory, who was dissatisfied with the score. Yet when it was finally performed in its entirety, critics hailed it as a great work — one that could only have been written by a truly Russian composer.
