Coinciding with Apertura Madrid Gallery Weekend, Galería Luisa Pita is pleased to announce the exhibition Deconstruction by textile artist Pierre Louis Geldenhuys (South Africa, 1971), to be held at Espazo Jovellanos in Madrid from September 12 to 26, 2025.

In this new project, Geldenhuys develops a profound exploration of textile art, giving prominence to elements such as threads, seams, and zippers. His works challenge the traditional perception of the medium and highlight environmental awareness and material innovation.

Wild silk is the main medium of works that establish a dialogue between natural fragility and the rigidity of industrial materials. Thus, the artist invites a critical reflection on the relationship between humanity and nature, addressing themes such as extinction and regeneration.

Each work is unique and exclusive. These are geometric engineering projects built from a single pattern repeated in a single piece of fabric. Proportion, order, and regularity are combined with the use of LED light, generating three-dimensional forms in a constant pursuit of beauty.

In Deconstruction, Geldenhuys embarks on an introspective journey through textile art. The works can be viewed from “within”: threads that pierce and knot folds of fabric, hanging, accumulating, and resting at the base of the compositions. Among regular and irregular polygons, he creates volumes, shadows, space, and color, presenting the pieces with perfect geometric order.

The silks incorporate color dyes, cuts, zippers, pins, buttons, and safety pins, all carefully arranged in compositions that generate a new interpretation of traditional tessellation. The result is a vibrant visual journey embodied in sixteen works of different formats distributed throughout Espazo Jovellanos.

From geometric abstraction, Pierre Louis Geldenhuys captivates the viewer with a refined and elegant aesthetic, in a visual game where the gaze sets the rules.
