With the aim of delving into the connections between art and science, since 2024 the CGAC has been collaborating with the Galician Supercomputing Centre (CESGA) and the Galician Institute of High Energy Physics (IGFAE) on the development of a programme of activities in which both fields of knowledge overlap and intertwine.
As part of this programme, the CGAC will host a lecture and a concert by the composer, pianist, performer and music theorist, researcher and Doctor of Philosophy Rakhat-Bi Abdyssagin (Almaty, Kazakhstan, 1999).
THURSDAY, 27 NOVEMBER / Lecture
Quantum Mechanics and Avant-Garde Music: Shadows of the Void
Time: 19:00
In this talk, the artist will introduce and explain to a general audience the main ideas of his book of the same name, published in 2024. The presentation will explore the different links between quantum physics and contemporary music, from interrelations in a chronological perspective to metaphorical correlations between fundamental phenomena of quantum mechanics—such as Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle, Pauli’s exclusion principle or quantum entanglement—and their reflection in the structure of selected musical compositions by Karlheinz Stockhausen, John Cage, Arnold Schönberg and others, as well as in specific performance techniques. He will also discuss the role that classical music played in the lives and work of great scientists such as Albert Einstein, Max Planck and Werner Heisenberg, among others. Finally, there will be a space for reflection addressing some of the more philosophical aspects of quantum theory and relativity.
FRIDAY, 28 NOVEMBER / Concert by Rakhat-Bi Abdyssagin
Time: 20:00
Rakhat-Bi Abdyssagin will offer a piano concert spanning various periods in the history of music, featuring works by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt and Scriabin, among others.
The recital will conclude with Rondine piangente, a composition by Abdyssagin in which the author intertwines his personal musical language with the pianistic tradition that shapes the programme.
