Santiago is historically a city that welcomes everyone, regardless of origin, religious beliefs or sexual orientation. Santiago de Compostela is a World Heritage City, that is, it is a collective heritage that anyone has the right to enjoy being treated in a calm, safe and friendly manner.
In order to make the values of Compostela Diversa visible, prominent public spaces such as the following are dressed in light and colour: Santiago Tourism Central Office, several spots in Alameda Park, the sculpture of the Marías - icons of diversity themselves-, access from Porta Faxeira and the "Eucalyptus of Lovers".
Finally, a large rainbow will be installed in the Paseo de los Leones de la Alameda so that both residents of Santiago and visitors to the city can take a photograph in the colours of diversity with a view of the historic centre and the Cathedral in the background. Also dressed in LGTBI colours is Rúa das Ameas, where the Mercado de Abastos is located, the second most visited place after the Cathedral. As a first, the decoration and illumination will also reach the Praza Roxa.
This special lighting and decoration will be visible from 27 May to 30 June.
This action of Compostela Diversa, a programme of the City Council of Santiago through the Department of Equality, is promoted by Turismo de Santiago with the support of the Diputación de A Coruña and the special collaboration of Mercado de Abastos.
