This lecture offers a critical reflection on culture understood not only as symbolic production, but also as a form of intellectual and creative work within the context of digital capitalism.
Drawing on works by Remedios Zafra such as Un cuarto propio conectado, Ojos y capital, El entusiasmo, Frágiles and El informe (National Essay Prize 2025), the talk will address issues such as precarious cultural labour, hyperexposure, self-demand, and the permanent systems of evaluation and control that shape contemporary creative and intellectual work. The session invites reflection on the value and meaning of cultural work, the precarious feminisation of many creative fields, and the possibilities for change through critical awareness and collective action.
Remedios Zafra is a writer and research professor at the Institute of Philosophy of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).
