The exhibition Face to Face is presented by artists Samuel Salcedo (Barcelona, 1975) and Sito Mújica (Sabadell, Barcelona, 1971).

Samuel Salcedo’s sculptural work invites us to explore human psychology through gestures —grimaces, laughter, mockery— as a way of questioning contemporary society. These are anonymous portraits, stripped of any narrative clues beyond the expression itself, with no indication of gender, age, or race. This gives each sculpture a universal quality. The ironic charge of his work contrasts with its monumentality and, combined with technical excellence, mastery of materials, and meticulous finishes, often recalls classical sculpture.

For his part, Sito Mújica creates paintings from digital images, manually reproducing halftone grids, as previously done by Chuck Close, Roy Lichtenstein, or Sigmar Polke. His works combine figurative elements with plastic icons that evoke abstract paintings, resulting in simultaneous representations or multi-layered planes. Though unique, these pieces draw from appropriated practices and images of diverse origins, many inspired by classical statuary from the Louvre. The result is a hybridization of Greco-Roman iconography, contemporary fashion, and pop graphic culture.

The exhibition takes place within the framework of Aberto 2025, with open days on September 18, 19, and 20. This collective initiative, organized by Contemporánea —the Association of Contemporary Art Galleries of Galicia— marks the official start of the new exhibition season.
