Museums for all ages

Although some of the city’s museums are interesting per se for children, several of them organise special activities and workshops in which young ones can participate and learn by playing.

 


USC NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM

More than 25,000 specimens of fauna, flora and minerals that will undoubtedly catch the eye of small biologists.

MUSEO DO POBO GALEGO

You can learn a lot about Galician customs in this museum. It is full of very interesting objects and tools, as well as boats and curious models of traditional Galician houses. It also houses a ‘magical’ stairway, a masterpiece of baroque art. The MPG organises special activities for children and families.

CGAC-GALICIAN CONTEMPORARY ART CENTRE

In the CGAC you can explore the most modern and abstract art, in a building designed by Álvaro Siza, currently one of the best architects in the world. Its Educational Department organises guided visits and workshops for children and families.

MUSEO DAS PEREGRINACIÓNS

In this museum, which deals with the history of pilgrims, you will like the giant model of the Cathedral, the reproductions of ancient musical instruments featured in the “Pórtico de la Gloria” and many more things…

EUGENIO GRANELL MUSEUM-FOUNDATION

It is housed in an old “pazo” (ancestral homoe) and exhibits surrealist works, which can be very amusing for children. Its Educational Department organises special activities for children now and again.

CASA-MUSEO DA TROIA

This house was one of Santiago’s most famous student boarding houses many years ago and is now a museum. Here you can discover the domestic life of Compostela residents’ great-great-grandparents: what their rooms were like inside, their kitchens, their bathrooms… The ground floor is devoted to Santiago de Compostela’s Tuna (student music group), which is the oldest in Europe. There you can become acquainted with its instruments, its typical clothes (with black capes full of multi-coloured ribbons) and its history.
