For this exhibition we have allowed ourselves the licence to change the word stone for the word tail, given that the whole of this duo revolves around collage. According to its etymology, the origin of the word collage is to be found in the French verb coller -pegar-. However, other meanings allude to the word collage as a formation of the Greek prefix -kola- (glue) and the suffix -age- (action).
The origin of the technique is disputed between Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. In 1912 both began to include wallpaper, fabrics and other extra-pictorial elements in their works. From then on, collage has been cultivated by various movements (Cubism, Futurism, Dadaism, Surrealism and Constructivism) up to the present day.
Now in Dupla it takes on the form of a game in the hands of its two protagonists:
On the one hand the artist Iván Prieto, better known as a sculptor, brings us this technique in its most traditional format. Using paper of different textures, cut-outs or train tickets, he creates an expressionist universe full of symbols. Curiously, although she once specialised in sculpture, the artist Alba Casanova cultivates animation, motion design and digital collage with a surrealist imagery that evokes Victorian photo collage.
