Ulla Region: Pazo de Oca and Pazo de Ribadulla, Pico Sacro, Monastery of Carboeiro, Toxa Waterfall  

Very close to Santiago are two old rural palaces with fascinating historical gardens. Full of thousands of plants and trees, some of which are very old, these are fantastic gardens featuring many a secret, where it seems that we can find a bit of everything: dwarves, princesses, princes turned into toads… They also feature a variety of areas: some leafy and mysterious, almost like the Amazon jungle, and others more elegant and organised, with flower beds, walks, benches, fountains and ponds… a whole world for the imagination and for children to roam about freely.

These gardens are very near Pico Sacro, a mythical hill crowned by the remains of a very old castle. The hill’s bowels are riddled with dark and mysterious underground galleries. From the top there is a wonderful view far into the distance.

The same trip can also include a visit to the Cistercian Monastery of Carboeiro, located on a secluded riverbank full of charm. Going there is like going back in time to the Middle Ages. It is wonderful place for walking and for a picnic. Very close to the monastery is Fervenza do Toxa, a waterfall that is easily reached by means of a 20-minute walk from the car park

Location: N-525 from Santiago de Compostela to Ourense, indicated detour on the right hand on a distance of 22 km aprox.
Time: every day, from 9 am till evening.
Price: 3 €. Free every non-festive monday from 9 am -12:30 am. Free for kids less than 9 years..

Trip to "Pazo de Santa Cruz de Ribadulla" or "de Ortigueira" 
Address: Santa Cruz de Ribadulla. Ortigueira. Vedra.
Location: km 323 of the N-525 road from Santiago de Compostela to Ourense, 18 km away from Santiago aprox.
Time: winter, from 10.30 am  to 12.30 am and from 3.30 pm to 8 pm. Sunday: 4 pm to 8 pm.
Price: 3 €. Discount for groups. Monday free.
