The Codex Calixtinus specifies that the apostle James “was martyred on March 25, on July 25 he was taken from Iria to Compostela and was buried on December 30.”

The feast of the Apostle James is held in numerous Spanish and Latin American towns on July 25. Santiago de Compostela organises the most striking of them all: the "Apóstol" Festival, which is held during the second fortnight in July.

James is also the patron saint of Galicia, which holds Galicia Day on July 25 in the city of Santiago de Compostela.
