The botanic name of the genus is the same one that was used in Latin for these trees.
The species is dedicated to Engelbert Kaempfer (1651-1716), who was linked to the Danish West India Company and later to the University of Uppsala.

There is only one specimen at the open area of the A Coruña avenue, in front of the Faculty of Chemistry.
