Its name comes from pissa, in Greek , and pix, in Latin, pitch, the black and viscous substance obtained by the oozing of the resin of these trees. Greek pitch, black pitch, Burgundy pitch and other substances are obtained from it.
Abies is the classic name given to firs by Latin documents about these plants.
Common name: Norway spruce

Origin and distribution:
This species originated in Europe, from the Nordic countries to the Balkans. In southern countries it is only present at high mountains.
Location in the garden:
It is frequently cultivated for gardening. There are two specimens symmetrically located nearby the canarian palm trees.
