The genus was named after José G. de Firmian, governor of Lombardy in the 18th century.
Simplex, means simple in Latin.

Origin and distribution:
It is native from China and Taiwan. It is hardly ever cultivated in some regions of Spain: in the Northern, Central and Southern ones.
Location in the garden:
There are two specimens in the gardens of Méndez Núñez Monument.
